How this is calculated

Bitcoin amount = dollar price divided by the price of one bitcoin in US dollars. Sats = bitcoin amount x 100,000,000. The bitcoin price is the latest spot price from Coinbase, with Kraken as a backup, fetched by your browser. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere else.

Common questions

How do I convert dollars to bitcoin?

Divide the dollar amount by the current price of one bitcoin. Enter the dollar amount above and the tool does it at the live price, and also shows the result in sats.

What is a sat?

A satoshi, or sat, is one hundred-millionth of a bitcoin (0.00000001 BTC). Small prices are easier to read in sats than in long decimals.

Where does the bitcoin price come from?

The live USD price comes from Coinbase's public spot price, with Kraken as a backup. It is requested by your browser when the page loads and when you press refresh. If neither can be reached, you can type a price in yourself.

Why does the same price in bitcoin change?

The dollar price of bitcoin moves all day. A $5 item costs a different number of sats at different times. This tool shows one moment, not a trend and not a prediction.

Where do the everyday prices come from?

They are U.S. city average retail prices from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Average Price Data for August 2026. They are national averages, so your store may differ.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is a converter for education. It does not say bitcoin is a good or bad thing to hold.
